The Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap - It's A Wrap!

I mentioned a while ago that I was taking part in Beth's Great Big Stitched Postcard Swap. The motto for the postcards was 'BLOOM'.

This is what I sent off to my swap buddy Colleen in New Hampshire, USA:

I took an actual vintage postcard and cross stitched over the black & white rose motif.

For this I made a copy of a chart I had for a rose that was the right size to cover the photo. I then cut it close to the outer border, laid the chart over the postcard and punched needle holes with a push pin.

I took another postcard of the same size and embroidered my partner's name and a few blooming synonyms. I just wrote out all the words in pencil and used the push pin again to make holes. I then erased the pencil and used black thread to simulate handwriting. I think I require some more practice for this kind of stitching, but I think you can make out the words, no? I stitched the two postcards together with simple running stitch.

I must say that I really am starting to like embroidering on paper, it makes everything look quite edgy and artsy!

Check out the swap group on Flickr for more postcards!
